People Power Triumphs
The Parliament of India unanimously passed a resolution on August 27, 2011, that the standing committee of Parliament would consider Anna Hazare's4 (Hazare) three demands viz., including the lower bureaucracy within the Lokpal's5 purview, a central law for creating Lok Ayuktas6 in states, and a citizen's charter for government departments providing public service.
The news of consideration of the demands paved the way for Hazare to end his 12-day fast. It was the first instance of Parliament accommodating the demands raised by the civil society after the official bill had already been moved.7
